This morning, the Holy Father received in Audience seven Australian Bishops making their Ad Limina Visit. As officially listed they were :

Archbishop Mark Coleridge of Canberra - Goulburn and frequently spoken of as a successor for the See of Brisbane,

Archbishop Adrian Doyle of Hobart whose retirement is due next month,

Archbishop Djibrail Kassab of the Chaldean Eparchy of Sydney

Bishop Daniel Hurley of Darwin,

Bishop Gregory O'Kelly S.J.  of  Port Pirie,

Archbishop John Bathersby of Brisbane whose resignation was submitted in July on his reaching 75 years,

Bishop James Foley of Cairns - see my comments in yesterday's post.

No clear significance seems to be apparent in the grouping. Though it is interesting that the remaining Queensland Suffragans were left out whilst the South Australian and Northern Territory men were included. And tantalising to find Archbishops Coleridge and Bathersby in the same group.

The man with all the answers ( hopefully), Cardinal Marc Ouellet was received by the Holy Father this afternoon.  Let us hope that the Australian log jam will be broken soon.
