AD LIMINA APOSTOLORUM LAST OF THE AUSTRALIAN BISHOPS 'AUDIENCES

THE VICAR OF CHRIST POPE BENEDICT XVI

This morning the Holy Father received the last of the Australian Bishops in their Ad Limina Audiences. The occasion was odd, in that  the Bishops as a Group had yesterday bidden farewell to the Holy Father at the end of their Visit. Such are the complexities of scheduling the Holy Father's agenda, in a week that has seen a number of exceptional developments, not least the announcement of the Motu Proprio "PORTA FIDEI".

The Bishops received to-day were:
Bishop Peter Connors of Ballarat,
Bishop William Wright of Maitland-Newcastle ( only recently consecrated),
Bishop Anthony Fisher O.P. of Parramatta ( whom many would see as Cardinal Pell's likely successor in due course)
Bishop Gerard Hanna of Wagga,
Bishop Kevin Manning Apostolic Administrator "ad nutum Sanctae Sedis"of Wilcannia- Forbes,
Bishop Peter Ingham of Wollongong,
Bishop Max Davis of the Military Ordinariate,
We might also note that in the afternoon the Holy Father received in Audience Cardinal William Levada Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith as he regularly does on CDF matters including the Ordinariate. However on this occasion, it would not be in the least surprising if His Eminence brought to the Holy Father the final Draft of the Australian Bishops'Statement on the Toowoomba Affair.

We ought to pray for all concerned and not least for the Holy Father, but also for Bishop Morris that his self - absorption might no longer obscure his view of his clear duty.
