|GAMARELLI's - THE WHITE ZUCCHETTO QUIETLY|
ANNOUNCES THEIR PREMIER CLIENT
THEY ALSO DO A NICE LINE IN RED
The announcement of a Consistory to create 22 new Cardinals ( of whom 4 are past the voting age limit for Cardinal Electors in a Conclave and are being honoured for a lifetime of service to the Church), brings to an end some weeks of tedious media speculation. At the same time it must be a subject of rejoicing at Gamarelli's and perhaps one or two other Ecclesiastical tailors, who will have the urgent task of providing the Cardinals-elect with their vesture.
The Consistory will be held on 18th February,2012 which is the Saturday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary time and immediately before Ash Wednesday on 22nd February, and the beginning of Lent.
There appear to be 7 Italians among those named, 2 Spaniards,2 Germans (one in the honorary 4), 2 Americans( but only one currently an Ordinary ) and 1 Canadian.
Largely, the appointments would have been predictable to those with detailed knowledge of the Curia and Roman institutions : 10 of the appointments are covered by that description and seem to have drawn little comment. Of the others, Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York and President of the US Bishops Conference is appointed ( his predecessor Cardinal Egan will cease to be of voting age in one month). However the great Archbishop recently appointed to Philadelphia , Charles Chaput misses out because he has two living predecessors, one of whom will remain an elector for some while yet. Equally, the Archbishop of Westminster Vincent Nichols still has a living predecessor and elector, and misses out.His performance has been such that no exception to the rule for his sake , would have been deemed appropriate, even though his predecessor Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor reaches the age limit in just a tad over 7 months.
|THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK|
APPOINTMENTS AS CARDINAL CAN CAST LONG AND TRULY BLESSED SHADOWS
No doubt the composition of the Sacred College of Cardinals will be the subject of increasing scrutiny as the years advance, and lists of "Papabili"will be compiled and pored over .Man proposes, God disposes.
Long Live Pope Benedict XVI!
