CHALLENGING THE NEWS : a. HEPWORTH and b. "CATH"NEWS
We need to retain a healthy scepticism about "the News" and about News Agencies. Two recent cases demonstrate that need :
|T.A.C. PRIMATE HEPWORTH ON THE GARDEN PATH|
In our last post we relayed the story in THE AUSTRALIAN that a gathering of 20 T.A.C. Bishops in Johannesburg S.A. had deposed John Hepworth as T.A.C. Primate by a majority of 12 of the 20.
However, yesterday, the Secretary of the T.A.C. Bishops Committee was interviewed on Radio National . She stated that the recent gathering was not held in accordance with the T.A.C. Statutes and that there were in fact 31 Bishops entitled to vote in any case, according to the Statutes. There was therefore, no majority of those entitled to vote. She did acknowledge that John Hepworth had long since intended to step down after Easter in any case. She made the point that the earlier decision of the T.A.C. to embrace the Ordinariate still stood despite contrary views expressed by the recent 12 majority.Further the names of those attending the Johannesburg unannounced meeting were not known.
It would seem likely that the T.A.C. is facing a re- construction or a split at the very least. It appears that Ordinariate developments are proceeding all the same.
CATHNEWS OR IS IT "CATH"NEWS
|PRESIDENT OF THE AUSTRALIAN CATHOLIC BISHOPS CONFERENCE|
ARCHBISHOP OF ADELAIDE PHILIP WILSON
Several days ago they carried a story from THE TABLET ( the U.K.'s Bitter Pill - well known for its dissenting line) on the subject of former Senator Rick Santorum's Republican Primary campaign's. It described Rick Santorum as "ultra Catholiic and ultra Conservative". I submitted a comment to the effect that Rick Santorum is a faithful Catholic who supports Catholic teaching on Abortion, Homosexuality and Contraception and that if they think fidelity to the Church's Teachings makes a person "ultra Catholic"that says more about CATHNEWS so-called than it does about Rick Santorum.
Needless to say the Comment was not published . I guess it is "CATH"NEWS and that they are not "ultra Catholic"! Pity about that Australian Catholic Bishops.
