AUSTRALIAN ORDINARIATE ANNOUNCED

OUR LADY OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS PAINTING COMMISSIONED
FOR SAINT MARY'S BASILICA ,SYDNEY AND UNVEILED BY CARDINAL PELL
Friday 11th May, 2012 was a historic day for the Catholic Church in Australia. In Brisbane , as we have seen, Archbishop Mark Coleridge was installed as Archbishop of Brisbane opening a new era in the Archdiocese.

But wait, there's more : Archbishop Denis Hart the recently elected President of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference announced that the Holy Father had approved the erection of the Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross under the Patronage of Saint Augustine of Canterbury, to begin on 15th June,2012. The Personal Ordinariate  will be the third to be established, preceded by the United Kingdom in 2011 and the United States at the beginning of this year.

In making the announcement Archbishop Hart reminded the faithful that the Holy Father had established the Ordinariate structures  in order to facilitate the entry int the Catholic Church in full communion , of those Anglicans "who have made a journey in faith that has led them to the Catholic Church". The Ordinariate is in effect a non territorial "Diocese"with special provisions allowing the former Anglicans to retain some of their traditions of prayer and worship.

SAINT AUGUSTINE OF CANTERBURY
All Catholics should rejoice at the news and do their utmost to welcome those entering the Church via the new Ordinariate. We look forward to the announcement of the new Ordinary in due course and of the practical arrangements for the education of Ordinariate Clergy before their Ordination as Priests.

One might expect even further joy during this month, for it is anticipated that the Holy Father will announce a new Personal Prelature for members of the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) who wish to be reconciled fully with the Church. It might be that the number would be less than 100% of the Soviety's Bishops, Clergy and Laity , but it would be a major healing of division very close to the Holy Father's heart,

Isn't it grand to have good news in such volume! Thanks be to God!
