AUSTRALIAN ORDINARIATE ERECTION ON 15TH JUNE APPROACHES

FEFRUARY 2012 GATHERED FOR ORDINARIATE FESTIVAL IN PERTH
(L to R ) TAC Abp HEPWORTH, CATHOLIC ARCHBISHOP HICKEY  CATHOLIC BISHOP PETER ELLIOTT AUX. MELBOURNE, ANGLICAN BISHOP ENTWHISTLE and CATHOLIC BISHOP SPROXTON AUX.PERTH

THE AUSTRALIAN  to-day reports that on Friday 15th June - the Feast of the Sacred Heart, and  the day the Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross under the Patronage of Saint Augustine of Canterbury is formally erected by the decree of the Holy Father, in St. Mary's Cathedral Perth,WA, the Archbishop of Perth will ordain as a Catholic Priest the present Anglican ( TAC) Bishop Harry Entwhistle ,72. Father Entwhistle is expected to be followed into the Catholic Church by most of his present TAC flock of 70 people at Saint Ninian and Saint Chad's Church in Perth , through the Ordinariate. This will be the first of the Anglican Parishes to do so.

This is a promising beginning for the Ordinariate and no doubt many more such moves will follow. "Other bishops, priests and parishes are expected to follow, including the Church of the Torres Strait and four Priests and a bishop from the TAC group in Japan"the paper reported.

We pray for the growing strength of the Ordinariate, and we look forward with interest to the appointment by the Holy Father of its new Ordinary expected to be announced on Friday.

With all due respect, I dont think this information is quite correct. I gather that Abp Hepworth is no longer the TAC Ordinariate for Australia and Fr.Owen Buckton of Rockhampton is the Vicar General.
The numer of people moving from Saint Ninian to the RC is overstated. Certainly not everyone in this Parish is going to Rome.

Thank you for your comment.
The Caption of the Photograph describes the roles of those shown at the time in FFebruary,2012 when the Photograph was taken. This is true for each person including Archbishop Hickey who has now retired and has been succeeded.

We reported on Abp Hepworth's reduced responsibilities here:http://draft.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=28659657#editor/target=post;postID=1663024791158254187 on 18th May, 2012.
I believe that in relation to Abp Hepworth you intended to say "Primate"rather than "Ordinariate".
You will see that our report ( following THE AUSTRALIAN) shows that not all but "most"of Father Entwhistle's congregation will follow him home to the Catholic Church. Thank you for your interest.( Father Bakker appears to be an Anglican - not from Australia, possibly South Africa) . I do not know the significance of the initials ACCOP, but would be grateful if anyone could enlighten me.

I think Fr Ed means 'Ordinary' of the Anglican Catholic Church in Australia - a body which is now in open schism. Hepworth has not been Primate of the TAC for some months now.

Fr Ed lives in Victoria, I believe. ACCOP stands for Anglican Catholic Church Original Province, a major branch of what is known as the Anglican Continuum, though mainly based in the USA. They are a tiny church in Australia and are a decidedly anti-Ordinariate body.

I personally think Continuing Anglicanism, like traditional Anglo-Catholicism, is doomed in Australia. I've no doubt that even places like the Diocese of the Murray will go the way of liberalism. Sad, which is why I think the Ordinariate needs more encouragement. At least Anglican patrimony has a real chance of survival and growth - certainly more of a chance than being a part of the continuing movement.

BTW, it is ENTWISTLE, not ENTWHISTLE. Don't worry, a common mistake. I just noticed that Australia Incognita has made the same error.

Thanks for the correct spelling of the name and for the meaning of the acronym. The fragmentation of Anglicanism is bewildering. The Ordinariate offers Anglicans convinced of the Truth a congenial way Home.
