"DESTROY THIS TEMPLE , AND IN THREE DAYS I WILL RAISE IT UP." JOHN 2: 19
"O GOD BEYOND ALL PRAISING
O God beyond all praising, We worship You today And sing the love amazing That songs cannot repay; For we can only wonder At ev'ry gift You send, At blessings without number And mercies without end: We lift our hearts before You And wait upon Your word, We honor and adore You, Our great and mighty Lord.
The flow'r of earthly splendor in time must surely die, Its fragile bloom surrender to You, the Lord most high; But hidden from all nature the eternal seed is sown -- Though small in mortal stature, to heaven's garden grown: For Christ the Man from heaven from death has set us free, And we through Him are given the final victory.
Then hear, O Gracious Savior, Accept the love we bring, That we who know Your favor May serve You as our King; And whether our tomorrows Be filled with good or ill, We'll triumph through our sorrows And rise to bless You still: To marvel at Your beauty And glory in Your ways, And make a joyful duty Our sacrifice of praise."
In the days when "Brittania waived the rules" as the wags had it, it was not easy being a Catholic, if it ever has been. Even in his native Ireland, James Dixon found that to be so. Because Erin had long since ceased to belong to its people, but rather to the English invaders. King George III sat upon the English throne for 59 years. Most of the leaders of the Rebellion were in fact highly educated Protestants rather than Catholics. Nevertheless the popular support inevitably came from the Catholic majority. The Rebellion was bloodily repressed in short order. Then the fierce effort to find and punish the perpetrat…

He was the most dazzling King of his time. Noted since his youth for his handsome good looks, athleticism and intellectual achievements, his court was the destination for the great achievers of his time. But, of late, things had begun to sour a little. Foreign adventures and his heavy gambling had left him cash-strapped. His wife had failed to produce a male heir, and his Chancellor, the Pope's Legate a Latere, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey had failed to secure from the Pope an Annulment of the King's marriage. This was particularly irritating because he did want a male heir, and his roving eye had fixed its attention on a very likely lass among his Queen's Ladies in Waiting: Ann …
This post first appeared in November, 2012, we repeat it to set the scene for some further comments as the Mid December, 2017 release of the Royal Commission's Report approaches.
The recent announcement by Australia's damaged Prime Minister Julia Gillard that a Royal Commission is to be set up to examine all sorts of institutional abuse of children from whatever source has opened the Gates of Hell and every screaming anti-Church demon has come hurtling out to attack the Catholic Church and everything about her. Like most Australians (95% the polls tell us) I strongly support the Royal Commission. Though according to the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC known by some as the GayBC) there is growing concern that the Commission will be too inclusive. Of course, they would like to confine it to the Catholic Church, or Churches only) And those demons found no lack of human forms to serve their purpose. The army of active abortionists, guilt-ridden aborters, active homosexuals, …
