HAIL GLORIOUS SAINT PATRICK
DEAR SAINT OF OUR ISLE!
We sang that lustily as young Australian kinder , knowing full well that the "isle"was Erin and not our island continent. But we "knew"he was ours just as truly!
The words from Saint Patrick's Breastplate have always appealed to me and seemed to sum up the man ( whose personality shown in his writings always brings to mind that of Saint Peter) :
"Christ be the vision
in eyes that see me,
In ears that hear me,
Christ ever be."
If we could all pray that, then the Kingdom of God - the Church - would be very, very close to the Kingdom of Heaven.
Let us rejoice in the great Feast of Saint Patrick, and commiserate with Saint Peter who sadly never got to be Irish!
