BISHOP BRIAN HEENAN EXITS BEFORE REPLACEMENT APPOINTED

The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference has issued a Media Release saying that the Holy Father has accepted the resignation of Bishop Brian Heenan of Rockhampton.
As our readers know :http://vexilla-regis.blogspot.com.au/2011/09/early-resignation-accepted-bishop-brian.html Bishop Heenan's resignation was accepted ( "nunc pro tunc") when first tendered , but as he revealed to a plenary meeting of his Priests he was asked to stay on until a successor was appointed.
Since no mention is made of a succesor having been appointed and there is to be an Administrator appointed, it would seem that Bishop Heenan believed he had waited long enough. He turned 75 in August, 2012. This is another reflection of the " loss of the Australia file" we have referred to in recent times.Though it was found for Hobart and later for Canberra-Goulburn ( at least for the Ordinary if not the Auxiliary) it appears that Rockhampton remains in the "too hard basket"(not to mention the other Australian vacancies!).
We wish Bishop Heenan well in his retirement in Brisbane.
