If we don’t first proclaim the Gospel:
"Pope Francis is inviting us to lead with the proclamation of the Gospel rather than with the pronouncement of moral teachings. This confuses some people on both the left and right side of the spectrum because they think that he is about to change, or is undermining, some of our moral teaching. He is not doing that. What he is doing is saying that if we don’t first proclaim the Gospel message of mercy and love, especially love for the poor, then our moral voice is weakened."
Yes it is true that what the Holy Father meant is as Father Anglin explains.
But the real problem is that it should become necessary to have everyone who cares, busily forever trying to explain "what the Holy Father really said".
Most will never read the explanations, Millions will wander off into the twilight zone assuming wrong things about the utterances and hundreds, maybe thousands will just think "this is the last straw" and toss in the towel. As Saint Paul says in"1 Corinthians 14:8 (Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition)

And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle?"

Pope Saint Pius X at the consecration of the future Pope Benedict XV

    These are times
     sent to try us.
We have been blessed with extraordinary Popes for so long we have perhaps gotten a little lazy in our thinking.
Well we are really in Ordinary Time and need to become as active as possible in defense of the Truth of the Catholic Faith and not leave it all to someone higher up.
